The Fiat Dino 2. 4 cabriolet was the result of an alliance between Fiat and Ferrari in the 1960s, motivated by a regulatory constraint: in order to homologate its new V6 engine, designed by Dino Ferrari, in Formula 2, the Maranello-based marque had to produce a certain number of road cars equipped with this engine. With insufficient production capacity, Ferrari called on Fiat to help it achieve this volume, and so the Fiat Dino was launched in 1966, initially with a 2. 0-litre V6 engine. In 1969, a more advanced version was launched: the Fiat Dino 2. 4. This important development marked a turning point for the model. The engine, still a Ferrari V6, was increased to 2. 4 litres (2418 cm³), developing around 180 bhp, and was now produced in Maranello, like the Ferrari engines. Unlike the 2. 0, which used a Fiat gearbox, the 2. 4 was fitted with a 5-speed ZF gearbox and independent rear suspension, which greatly improved handling. The cabriolet, designed by Pininfarina, was distinguished by its elegant, sober lines, combining sportiness and refinement. It offered a more affordable alternative to a Ferrari, but with a real shared DNA. Only 424 examples of the Fiat Dino 2. 4 cabriolet were produced between 1969 and 1972, making it a highly sought-after and relatively rare model today. Assembled at Pininfarina, this cabriolet version benefited from particular care in its manufacture and a more exclusive positioning. It was also well-equipped for its time, with wood trim, leather seats, and top-level performance, with a top speed approaching 210 km/ h. This example, one of only 424 produced, was imported by the current owner in 2013, after restoration. The car has nonetheless been very well maintained since then with over €50, 000 in bills over 12 years, and just under 20, 000 km covered. Recent works include a new battery, full service, brake pads, new clutch, undercarriage overhaul, various electrical works as well as chain timing.
