1934 Talbot 65/ 75 3 Posiçao Drophead Foursome Coupé
Chassis Number: 36539
Registration number: YG7322
Sporting very desirable 3 position drophead coachwork by exclusive coachbuilder Carlton who bodied very few of these Talbots. This car comes to us in impeccable condition having been subject to a recent body off restoration during which the majority of the ash frame work was replaced. The car was then repainted in Connaught green; a colour that suits the car admirably along with an ivory coachline. Beige leather was used to retrim the interior which is in like new condition & a black mohair lined hood installed. Brand new green carpets are found under foot. All interior woodwork was also removed & refinished to the correct satin low gloss finish.
Supplied new via the Thornton Engineering Co Ltd of Bradford during May 1934, `YG 7322' owes its conservation to the Marsden family. Dry stored in a purpose-built garage on the Isle of Wight for most of their custodianship (1943-1988). The car had covered just 20, 000 miles when purchased & 32, 715 miles when laid up.
The coachwork is very versatile being snug when fully closed a true convertible when all the way down & a useful half way house between closed & open when used in the sedanca position. Raising & lowering the hood is easy & it stows tidily under a fitted hood bag. There is also a full length split tonneau cover.
Massive attention has been given to the cars mechancals with a full documented recent rebuild with interesting correspondence detailing the lengths that have been gone to to get the timing right & the Carburettor correctly jetted etc to produce maximum power without over fueling. It is well worth reading the details. The Wilson Pre Select gear box is a pleasure to use & works faultlessly. Ian Polson rebuilt the engine & Tom Dark did the gear box. The car now cruises easily at 3500RPM at 70MPH.
New Blockley tyres have been fitted and the shock absorbers and suspension geometry overhauled. Indeed, the last owner advises the entire car has been fettled and improved where required and its is in very fine running order and very reliable.
Performance from the freshly rebuilt 2. 3 Litre six cylinder engine is good with the car cruising in modern traffic effortlessly. Imposing from the front, a pair of desmo spot lanps are found in situ beneth the headlamps with halogen internals providing mordern standards of illumination. Between 2014 & 2019 some £42, 500 pounds was spent upon the car which clearly shows from the wonderful condition we find the car in today. A further £20, 000 or so has been spent by the last onwer including the full retrim to the interior.
