Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at Race Retro 2026 - Competition Cars on Saturday the 21st of February, Stoneleigh Park, Stoneleigh Rd, Coventry, CV8 2LG. This is a unique piece of modern British motoring television history, Richard Hammond’s personal MG B GT race car, and notably the final car he drove during his time on Top Gear.
Originally a road-going MG B GT, EON 875L was transformed into a fully prepared race car during Series 2 of Richard Hammond’s Workshop, where viewers followed its evolution from classic coupé to competitive circuit racer at The Smallest Cog. The build was carried out with the same attention to detail and enthusiasm that defined the programme, resulting in a car that is both properly engineered and rich in provenance.
Power comes from a Rick Wood Motorsport–built engine, dyno proven at 131bhp, offering strong, reliable performance well suited to historic racing. The car has enjoyed four full seasons of competition between 2022 and 2025, benefiting from consistent use and ongoing development rather than static display.
Recently, the MG has been checked over and race prepared including a head skim and new head gasket carried out by Rick Wood Motorsport, ensuring it remains in strong mechanical health and ready for immediate use.
This is a special opportunity to acquire a race-prepared MG B GT directly from Richard Hammond’s ownership, with on-screen history and documented competition use, this is a car that will appeal equally to historic racers, collectors of TV-related vehicles, and fans of modern British motoring culture. To further confirm its relevance, Corgi has partnered with Richard Hammond’s The Smallest Cog to launch an exclusive 1:43 model range that celebrates the art of car restoration and this MGB is the second model in the range. It's presented in exclusive dual-branded packaging featuring both The Smallest Cog and Vanguards logos, making it a must-have for collectors and fans alike and a signed example will accompany the real thing.
Cars with this level of provenance, usability, and recognisability seldom come to market and we invite and encourage your viewing of this popular MG racer at our Race Retro sale.
