Powered by ether a 4. 2-litre or 4. 9-litre V8 engine, the Maserati Kyalami was manufactured between 1976 and 1983, by which time some 198 examples of this most exclusive luxury Gran Turismo had been built, the 4. 2/ 4. 9 split being 124/ 74 (source: Maserati Club UK's official factory figures).
Chassis number '38', body number '16', is the 19th left-hand drive Kyalami made. A 4. 2-litre model, the Maserati was delivered new to its (unknown) first owner in Italy. The second custodian was a Mr Heimo Strauhal of Innsbruck, Austria, who was followed by Mr Fritz Kostenzer of Eben ** Achensee, Austria. While in Mr Kostenzer's care the Kyalami was restored over a three-year period (2012-2015) by Mr Christoph Dapont of Strass, Austria. A Bonhams representative visited this car in 2013 during its restoration in Austria when it was in bare metal and completely dismantled. It is possible that the car's original exterior colour was Luci del Bosco, but the original interior colour is not known. The car is currently finished in black metallic with Crema (cream) upholstery. Extensive restoration records are available, but no photographs.
A resident of Rosenheim, Germany, the current vendor has owned the car since 2015. Additional accompanying paperwork consists of Austrian historic registration (Einzelgenehmigung) and German historic registration (Oldtimer Gutachten).
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams|Cars website for all pertinent auction information.
