Chassis number 'GDK8' was sold new on 19th July 1924 to Eustace Watkins Ltd of 91 New Bond Street, London, UK, the famous motor dealership best known for its long-term association with the Wolseley marque. The factory build sheet notes 'providing own coachwork'; 'springs for a 4 door saloon'; and 'car for use in both town & country'. Eustace Watkins enjoyed close links with London-based coachbuilders Whittingham & Mitchel (they ended up buying W&M in the early 1930s) and this car's original body may well have been one of theirs. (The vendor believes that the car was re-bodied in the past, but there are no documents supporting this.)
The Rolls-Royce was imported into Sweden from the UK in 1997 and has belonged to the vendor's family since then. Used frequently for historic rallies all over Europe, it is registered in Sweden and comes with Swedish registration documents, a folder of invoices, copies of the first UK title and other historical documents.
In 2003 the engine was overhauled by the renowned Rolls-Royce specialists D W Haynes in the UK (invoice on file). Serviced and maintained regularly by classic Rolls-Royce expert Kjell Lind in Sweden.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams|Cars website for all pertinent auction information.
