Description
This beautifully presented, matching numbers Triumph TR6, was first registered on the 16th of October 1969. We can tell by the frame number, that the bike was manufactured for police use meaning it was equipped with a higher output alternator, lower compression engine. UTB 37H has come to us from a regular customer in Wetherby after 5 years of ownership where significant expenditure has gone into restoring it to the pristine example we see today.
We have a wonderful file of history to accompany the motorcycle with various invoices and MOT certificates dating back to 1986 when the bike was based in the Coventry area. The plentiful invoices would suggest the Triumph stayed in the same area from the 1986 right through until 2006 when a Wakefield based gentleman purchased the bike for just £2500. At the time the bike was configured to an aftermarket specification with bright blue paintwork and high-rise handlebars, soon to be restored to its original condition as it presents today.
The Triumph TR6 Tiger was widely regarded as one of the best and most versatile motorcycles of the period manufactured by Triumph Engineering Co Ltd. Its powerful 650 twin meant it could keep up with many other, more expensive motorcycles. Whilst its well-designed suspension and excellent frame meant it was equally as capable off road as on the tarmac, gaining it the title "Desert Sled". The TR6 was a personal favourite of the one and only Steve McQueen.
Being a 1969 model year, it is one of the most desirable models produced at the Meriden factory before the arrival of the "oil in frame" models coming shortly after in 1971. Those with a keen eye may notice the twin carburettor arrangement, an upgrade carried out previously in the bikes life to enhance the riding experience and increase power output to a similar level as that of the more expensive Bonneville models.
Today the TR6 has a pristine factory correct finish with wonderful paintwork, fantastic brightwork and is in excellent mechanical order. The bike has matching engine and frame numbers so would make an excellent addition to any collection.
