History
Launched in 1999, the Yamaha YZF-R6 marked a defining moment in the supersport era. Yamaha’s brief was simple yet ambitious, build the sharpest, most focused 600cc machine the class had ever seen. The result was nothing short of revolutionary.
Powered by a high-revving 599cc inline-four producing a headline-grabbing 120bhp, the R6 immediately set new benchmarks for power-to-weight ratio in the middleweight category.
Early carburetted examples such as this 1999 model are increasingly sought after. Representing the pure, analogue beginnings of what would become one of the most celebrated supersport bloodlines of the modern era, it stands as a reminder of a time when performance was visceral, mechanical & unapologetically focused.
Body & Paintwork
Sporting the rare black & orange colour scheme, this R6 looks as good now as it did in 1999.
All panels are in great condition & appear to be in original paintwork, only minor age related imperfections can be seen.
As can be seen in the pictures, the bike presents very well from top to bottom.
The original screen is still fitted, along with original mirrors & indicators, the number plate holder is original with no modifications (‘cutting down’ of the number plate holders was very common).
Overall a very nicely presenting, very low mileage example.
Interior & Trim
All trim is in very good condition.
Obviously things such as the handlebar grips are showing very minimal wear with only 2k miles.
The top yoke is in great condition (often marked by keys in the ignition flapping around on to the top yoke), bar ends are undamaged, & the bike shows zero signs of ever being dropped.
Engine
The engine runs beautifully, even from cold on choke.
All gears engage nicely & the clutch operates perfectly well.
The bike rides smoothly through the rev range & gives impressive performance.
If the bike is to put into a collection & not be used, then of course we can fully decommission the bike (all fuel drained & battery removed) ready to be displayed.
Running Gear
As with the rest of the bike, the running gear is all original & in great order.
Suspension & brakes feel fantastic, with superb braking performance and handling.
Tyres are brand new Michelins.
