Description
1934 Riley Kestrel 14/ 6 saloon, reg. no. APP 166, chassis no. 44T1617, black with cream coachwork with burgundy hide upholstery. Long-term ownership (57 years) with Dick Cresswell and his late twin brother David.
This very attractive and scarce Riley sports saloon with its 14hp 6 cylinder engine, four speed manual transmission with 'silent third' syncromesh gearbox and streamlined coachwork with purposeful 'cannon shell' radiator protrusion was subject to an older restoration but still presents well. We are informed that the original 12/ 6 engine was replaced a few years ago with one rebuilt to a slightly enhanced 14/ 6 specification. (The original engine may be available to the purchaser, free of charge, but we are awaiting confirmation of its availability). Along with Dick Cresswell's other Rileys, it has seen little use in recent years and will probably require some light recommissioning. It is sold with a current V5 and a 1960s brown logbook which indicates the Kestral was owned by Mr A. Cole Walker of Datchet in 1962, then Mr John Long of Datchet in 1962, then Mr Edward Barlow of Clapton, London from 1962 to 1969 at which point Dick Cresswell bought it in October 1969 (57 years ago). There are also some old MOT certificates. (Subject to 12% buyers' premium inclusive of VAT).
