Description

1955 marked the beginning of a new era for the Lancia brand. The Lancia family could no longer sustain the company, founded in 1906 by Vincenzo Lancia, and had to sell their shares in the family business after 49 years.

During this period, Lancia's own designer, Pininfarina, unveiled a large sedan intended as a successor to the Lancia Aurelia.

Lancia Flaminia Coupé GT (1959–1963)

The second variant, offered between the spring of 1959 and mid-1967, was built by Carrozzeria Touring and is recognizable by the GT designation (=Gran Turismo). The design was based on that of the Maserati 3500 GT. Essentially, like the PF Coupé, this car shared the same technical components as the sedan. Touring's distinctive Superleggera construction, a body with an aluminum tubular frame, resulted in a weight reduction of 200 kg. Consequently, the curb weight of the Touring Coupé was only 1, 337 kg. Thanks to the shortened wheelbase of 2, 520 mm and the smaller frontal area, performance and handling were improved.

In 1960, the magazine Auto, Motor und Sport was enthusiastic about the car and ranked it among the best-handling production sports cars. Compared to the Pininfarina Coupé, the Touring Coupé had a stiffer suspension, was louder, and faster. In tests, the 2. 5-liter version accelerated from 0 to 100 km/ h in 12. 8 seconds. The top speed was 180 km/ h.

The Touring Coupé was also not a cheap car, with a starting price of DM 29, 850. Leather upholstery cost an extra DM 510. In Italy, the Lancia was considered the Ferrari of the mid-range. However, a Ferrari 275, priced at around 49, 000 DM, was considerably more expensive than the Touring.

The car was continuously developed. Like the Pininfarina Coupé, the Touring benefited from engine improvements. The first series (Type 824) was initially equipped with a single carburetor and 87 kW (119 hp), followed by the 3C version with three double carburetors and 103 kW (140 hp). The second series (Type 826), introduced in the autumn of 1963, featured the 2. 8-liter engine with a power output of 110 kW (150 hp).

Only a few examples of the Flaminia Touring were built. Nevertheless, it is seen more often at classic car events than the Pininfarina Coupé. The availability of spare parts is comparable to that of the Pininfarina Coupé. Truly good examples are rare, as the aluminum body requires considerable expertise to repair. Flaminia GTL

The Flaminia GTL was a 2+2 coupé variant of the GT with an extended wheelbase of 2600 mm.

The Flaminia Touring Convertible presented here is a FULLY restored car. The restoration has been fully completed, and the car is now in better condition than a new one delivered at the time. It is finished in Off-White with a brown leather interior. It also drives fantastically and still needs to be fully broken in. Everything is new.
