In 1932 Norton introduced the International, a road-going TT replica. The 500cc version became the Model 30, using a 490cc single-cylinder SOHC engine. These machines were remarkably close to the factory racers and could be ordered with numerous competition parts
Undoubtedly one of the very first race-replica bikes built, it was the ancestor of later machines such as the BSA Gold Star, Ducati 750 Super Sport, and ultimately modern homologation specials like the Honda RC30. This example is a rare end-of-production model as, by 1957, it was only available by Special Order, with only a handful of machines sold by Norton that year
This fine machine has been meticulously and extensively restored by its engineer owner, who purchased the bike some four years ago as a barn find and set about a huge restoration project that took two years to complete
Having been off of the road for some 40 years, he shot-blasted the frame and had it etch-coated before being fully repainted in two-pack paint. The engine and gearbox have been totally stripped and rebuilt with new valves, valve springs, the bore honed and a new piston fitted, rebuilt crank with new mains and big ends, and all bevel bearings replaced. Similarly the gearbox was rebuilt with new bearings and bushes
Fitted with new wheels, tyres and side panels but, where possible, as many original parts have been refurbished and retained in the interest of originality
The exception is a Mikuni carb fitted for ease of starting/ running, though the original TT carb is supplied with the bike
Still presenting very well indeed, this smart machine has been subject to a ground-up re-build and total restoration by our vendor over many hundreds and hundreds of hours, resulting in both a fine looking and running machine, that is testament to his skills
Still presenting very well indeed, this is a fine looking and running machine, a testament to our vendor's skills
Supplied with a current V5C (correctly classed as Historic) and a wonderful photobook documenting the bike's incredible restoration journey
A superb opportunity to purchase a beautifully restored and well running International that is ready to ride and enjoy.
