Description
How cool is this?! Another true icon from the late '80s and early '90s. Back then, Opel aimed to compete head-on with its premium German rivals. They certainly succeeded, as the Omega was crowned European Car of the Year in 1987. Designed to challenge the Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5-Series—but with a much friendlier price tag—it offered an impressive power-to-weight ratio combined with legendary German engineering. This successful platform later paved the way for the legendary Lotus Omega and the Evolution 500.
This particular model is a 1987 first-generation model. Originally delivered in Germany, it is currently registered on Dutch plates. Thanks to its age, this car qualifies for classic car status (oldtimer) in many European countries, offering significant advantages in taxes and insurance.
Condition.
A beautifully preserved example. Both the interior and exterior have been exceptionally well cared for. Naturally, this Omega 3000 still features its distinctive, original factory striping and that characterful, old-school rear spoiler. The car sits on a neat set of all-weather tires.
The Drive.
The experience starts the moment you step inside and settle into the optional, half-leather Recaro sports seats. The engine fires up instantly. Engaging first gear brings back that characteristic, mechanical Opel gear-shift feel of the era.
Out on the road, you immediately notice you are driving something with serious potential. The smooth inline-six engine delivers fantastic performance, paired with predictable and engaging handling. A great car to drive, a wonderful enthusiast example, and a solid investment!
