While Honda built some of the definitive superbikes of the 1970s, commuters could enjoy similarly sophisticated engineering but on a smaller scale with models such as the CB250N Super Dream, produced from 1978 to 1986. Equipped with an air-cooled SOHC parallel twin of 249cc, with electronic ignition, twin Keihin carburettors and a six-speed transmission, the CB250N quickly became one of the best-selling bikes in Britain, initially because it was perfect for learners—laws at the time restricted learners to 250cc, but in 1983 the limit was lowered to 125cc. Producing 27bhp at 10, 000rpm, it was credited with an 83mph top speed.
This lovely, early CB250N was one of the thousands sold new in Britain. It was in long-term ownership between 1997 and 2020, though it appears to have been off the road for most of this century. It was put on the road in 2021, however, and evidently benefits from some recent refurbishment, including paintwork improvements, though in other respects it appears highly original. It joined our vendor’s small collection of old motorcycles in 2023 and since then has been well cared for but not ridden. We note the low mileage reading of 3, 405. The Honda is supplied with the V5C.
