Description

Stratton Motor Company are delighted to be able to offer for sale this iconic piece of British motoring history, a very rare 1989 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante X-Pack in original condition and with just 6, 500 miles recorded from new, and a fully documented history. The Series 111 Vantage (Oscar India), commonly known as the X-Pack, and a natural progression from the William Towns designed DBS, was arguably Britains first supercar, with a top speed of 175mph and 0-60 in 5. 3 seconds and faster than its competition, the Lamborghini Countach and the Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer. Power came from the Tadek Marek designed all alloy 5. 3 litre V8 engine, identified as the V580X engine, that was tuned and breathing through a quartet of Weber 48mm carburettors rather than the standard 42mm units. Valves and Ports were enlarged and the camshaft profiles updated, and using Cosworth Pistons the end result was an estimated maximum output of around 410bhp. Chassis changes were minimal apart from the adoption of bigger ventilated brake discs and all-round low-profile tyres. The Vantage X Pack was, nevertheless, readily distinguishable from the standard product by virtue of its prominent bonnet scoop, blanked air intake, front chin spoiler and in the case of the Volante model the lip in the boot lid, along with flared wheel arches and side skirts. The X-Pack also had the Ronal designed polished alloy wheels. This car is a matching numbers, factory built X-Pack with the less common, but sought after, 5-Speed manual gearbox. It still wears its original colours, Rolls Royce Windsor Blue Metallic with a contrasting Magnolia Hide interior with Dark Blue Piping and Dark Blue Wilton Carpets. The car was originally supplied by JCT600 in Yorkshire to its first owner in Dunmow in North Essex and apart from a very brief period of ownership in Macclesfield (15 months), it has remained in North Essex for the remainder of its life, the last keeper, a respected company director, having had it for 24 years before it came to Stratton Motor Company and with a documented history with Aston Martin main dealers including Aston Martin Lagonda and Aston Martin Works. An original car, already rare due to low production numbers, and with a manual gearbox, are few and far between especially with the mileage being so low and command a premium to match for what must be a great investment opportunity. This example is in outstanding condition as would be expected for a car with mileage this low and having been maintained to a very high standard. The manual gearbox only adds to its desirability along with its documented history for what must be an investment opportunity as one of Britains former handcrafted supercars.
