Introduced in March 1980, the 380 SLC utilised an extended wheelbase version of its R107 convertible sibling’s platform complete with all-round independent coil-sprung suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and power steering. A refined grand tourer, the four-seater’s rear windows housed louvred sail panels which helped disguise its additional length. Predominantly allied to automatic transmission, its 3. 8 litre SOHC V8 engine developed a quoted 204bhp. Reputedly capable of over 125mph, it remained in production until September 1981 by which time 3, 789 are thought to have been made.
Attractively finished in Champagne Metallic with Deep Brown leather / velour upholstery, ‘ODB 61W’ is understood to have had four previous keepers prior to entering the current ownership during 2016. Described by the vendor as being in ‘very good to excellent overall condition’, the Mercedes-Benz was reportedly treated to a replacement timing chain and tensioners etc in the recent past. Benefiting from an electric sunroof as well as frameless electric windows, the 380 SLC allows its occupants to enjoy ‘fresh air motoring’.
