Description
An extremely rare Land Rover Series I Stationwagon 88. Imported from Belgium, so it’s an original left-hand drive model. Only 60 of this left-hand drive diesel estate model were produced, and this is chassis no. 59. In the past, an estate was much more expensive than a pick-up due to higher tax rates. This Series I is therefore quite unique on the market, as I haven’t seen it for sale anywhere else. An iconic car with an incredible presence. British, rugged and unpolished. The original underpowered diesel engine has been replaced with the reliable 2, 250 cc 4-cylinder unit featuring a 5-bearing crankshaft.
The exterior looks very good; you can tell that the 88 has spent a lot of time indoors and has been owned by true enthusiasts. Don’t expect a gleaming showroom car, as this isn’t a car for those who like to polish it to a shine. The chassis has been restored, so the underbody looks very neat. The new alloy wheels are fitted with new 4x4 tyres. The doors close neatly and some lovely authentic accessories have been fitted, such as an extra spotlight by the windscreen and a new Lucas reversing light. There’s also a new tow bar with new brackets on the rear bumper and a new front bumper. The lighting has recently been updated and it all looks well maintained. Thanks to the beautiful blue colour and the aluminium finish, it’s a rugged yet charming car.
The entire interior is also in a neat and well-maintained condition. All the seats have been reupholstered in the past. The steering wheel and steering column are new, and a circuit breaker has been fitted. It also features a Smiths oil pressure gauge and a new heater with a fan. There are new, thick rubber mats fitted both front and rear. Under the bonnet, you can see that recent maintenance has been carried out, including new hoses and filters. And everything is neatly finished in paint. A clean and tidy engine bay – just as it should be!
This 4x4 is ready to work for you like a border collie. No slope too steep, no mud too thick – it can handle it all. It was Queen Elizabeth’s favourite car; she was just as tough and fearless. It’s the ultimate way to unwind and a sturdy workhorse. And now with a high ‘cuddle factor’, making it a bigger babe magnet than a Ferrari or Lambo. Who would have thought it? Delivered new in Belgium and the odometer reading has been taken.
