Description

• Iconic Jaguar 420 G from the late 1960s • Powerful 4. 2-litre straight-six engine (4, 235 cc) with 4-speed manual gearbox and overdrive • Recorded mileage of 20, 442 km • Fine professional restoration • Rare manual gearbox conversion • One of the first true British sports saloons, well before BMW M and Mercedes-AMG • Belgian registration documents The Jaguar 420 G ranks amongst the most luxurious and imposing models ever produced by Jaguar. Succeeding the Mark X, it combined an exceptionally spacious interior with the legendary 4. 2-litre XK straight-six, refined road manners and quintessentially British elegance. In its day, the 420 G was one of the first large saloons to offer both exceptionally high comfort levels and remarkable performance, becoming a true wolf in sheep's clothing, well before BMW M and Mercedes-AMG came to dominate this segment. This 1969 example benefits from a fine professional restoration and is presented in the superb Royal Claret finish, a deep burgundy red often mistaken for black or dark purple. It is powered by the reliable 4, 235 cc straight-six engine, paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. Originally, the Jaguar 420 G was supplied with an automatic gearbox, but this example has been professionally converted to manual, offering a noticeably more dynamic and engaging driving experience. The bodywork has been carefully repainted and presents very well, whilst the underside has recently benefited from work. Its spacious interior, remarkable comfort and the unique character of the XK engine make this Jaguar an authentic British grand tourer. Capable of cruising effortlessly along roads during a rally or Sunday outing, it also possesses the performance to deliver surprisingly dynamic driving when the driver desires. It is also remarkable that, for a 1960s Jaguar, virtually all electrical equipment still functions correctly, which is particularly rare for a vehicle of this generation.
