1934 Riley Kestrel 14/ 6 44T in excellent driving condition.
Considered the prettiest of all the Riley Saloons, the flowing Art Deco lines of the Kestrel are still striking today and in six cylinder form it is a rare and desirable motor car.
This example has been in the care of well known Riley aficionados Dick and David Cresswell for the past fifty seven years and the Kestrel has been restored and used extensively during that time.
Now an older restoration, the Kestrel still presents well although there are now a few age related marks; nevertheless it is still a most impressive car.
The interior is simply gorgeous. The sumptuous burgundy leather upholstery is in excellent condition as are the matching carpets and also the headlining.
The dashboard is beautifully appointed with a wealth of instrumentation and controls. It is all in working order with the exception of the fuel gauge – not uncommon on Rileys.
The Pytchley sliding roof is in excellent order as is the opening windscreen. There are scuttle vents which can be operated from inside the car.
The engine starts readily and settles down to a typically smooth six cylinder idle while showing good oil pressure. On our test drive the car performed well with excellent brakes, clutch and gearchange while there was plenty of urge from that lovely motor which is said to be capable of cruising at 60mph plus.
It is fitted with direction indicators and a battery isolator for safety and convenience.
This particular Kestrel started life as a 12/ 6 but was uprated with the larger 14/ 6 engine a number of years ago.
It was originally registered on 7th April 1934 in Buckinghamshire and there is a plate on the dashboard in the name of Leigh Park Motors, Datchet, who must have handled the car at some time.
There is a small file of documentation with the car which consists of V5C, an RF60 buff log book dating back to 1962 and a wealth of old MoT certificates.
Six cylinder Kestrels rarely come onto the market and so this is an opportunity to acquire a rather special and desirable car.
