The Jaguar XK120 was a revelation when it was launched in 1948. This British sports car, with its sleek curves and aluminium bodywork, was originally intended to be a promotional showcase for Jaguar's new inline six-cylinder engine. But public interest was so huge that Jaguar decided to go into series production - and it did well. The XK120 became the fastest production car of its time, managing to break the 120 mph (193 km/ h) mark, which gave it its name. Its performance and elegance captivated not only movie stars and the rich, but also racing drivers. As a testament to its qualities, it was purchased by the famous actor Clark Gable. A little trivia? On the test track at Jabbeke in Belgium, the modified XK120 was able to reach 213 km/ h, which was unprecedented at the time. This particular 1952 example in coupe guise underwent a thorough professional restoration in 2011-2012 and is now in excellent condition. It was originally imported from the USA and, during the restoration, received several sensitive modifications to improve its usability in modern traffic - notably a newer Jaguar-built gearbox and brakes. These changes do not detract from the car's character but make it more enjoyable and safer to drive. Under the bonnet is a conventional inline six-cylinder engine, displacing 3, 442cc, which is not only powerful but also sounds wonderful. This XK120 thus combines timeless elegance with practical refinements that allow it to be not only a showpiece, but also a car that is a joy to drive.
