One of approximately 1, 690 first-series Renault 5 Turbos built between 1980 and 1982, the example offered here is numbered “1517” and was first registered on 21 July 1981. Just two colours were available to order from new for this road-going homologation special: Bleu Olympe or this car’s vibrant finish of Grenade Rouge.
Although the car’s complete history is not fully documented, the iconic Art Deco two-tone interior was refurbished in July 2017. The Renault, then owned on the outskirts of Toulouse, was submitted to upholstery specialist Les Selliers du Domaine for new carpet and door trims. That year, the car also benefitted from Colloud Garage of Lullin rebuilding the 1. 4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine in work costing €3, 566 (invoice available on file).
Further supported by an inspection report compiled by French automotive expert Olivier Garcia in December 2025, the car displayed 102, 661 kilometres at the time of cataloguing and is accompanied by a spare wheel and tool kit. For rally fans, here is a brilliant opportunity to acquire the rare first-generation of Renault’s legendary 1980s hot hatchback.
