Supplied new by the Humber Works to their New Bond Street showroom, possibly as a demonstrator

Pleasingly still presented with its original Weymann fabric saloon coachwork

Subject to a mechanical restoration in the 1990s

Entered from a private collection, and accompanied by a large history file

Humber Limited had an important year during 1923, with the adoption across the range of new inlet over exhaust engines, replacing the previous side-valve units, along with the introduction of a new luxury small car, the 985cc 8hp (later called the 8/ 18). Very much a “big car in miniature,” it was generously equipped by the standards of the day. It was developed into the 1, 056cc 9/ 20 model, and ultimately the 9/ 28 introduced in 1929.

The Humber 9/ 20 is very highly esteemed among vintage enthusiasts, and no light car event would really be complete without one. The majority of 9/ 20s were built as open two-seaters, often in the memorable and attractive colour of Humber Mole, so it’s exciting to encounter one with an extremely rare Weymann saloon body, and finished in an unusual Blue-Grey. Believed to carry its original London registration, it is known to have been despatched new to Humber’s flagship New Bond Street showroom, where it may have served as a demonstrator.

In more recent years, there are records of a mechanical restoration taking place in the 1990s. MOT history indicates that the Humber was on the road in 2011 and 2019, though it did little mileage between the two tests, and as of 2014 it belonged to a Humber Register member in Nottingham. It has spent the last few years on static display in a collection of vintage cars, and is accompanied by a significant history file, including correspondence back to the 1960’s, factory records, extensive invoices, buff logbook, and instruction book. With good spares support available through the Humber Register, it is bound to be very well-received at VSCC Light Car & Edwardian Section events.
