Ford’s Anglia name had been familiar to British motorists since 1939, but the arrival of the 105E in 1959 marked a significant departure from its predecessors. Its distinctive reverse-rake rear window, prominent rear fins and fresh styling brought an American influence to the small family saloon. Beneath the bodywork, a new overhead-valve four-cylinder engine and four-speed manual gearbox represented further progress over the outgoing side-valve models. Compact, practical and economical, the Anglia became a familiar sight on British roads and remains an instantly recognisable classic Ford. Introduced in 1962, the Anglia Super offered buyers greater performance and a more generous specification. Designated 123E, it employed the larger 1, 198cc engine also used in the contemporary Cortina, while two-tone paintwork, additional chrome trim and an improved interior distinguished it from lesser versions. Today, the 1200 Super is a desirable member of the Anglia family, combining the model’s characteristic appearance with the appeal of its larger engine and enhanced equipment.
This 1964 Ford Anglia Super 1200 is finished in white and green, the latter described as a close approximation to Goodwood Green rather than an exact match. The two-tone combination suits the Super’s period styling and provides an attractive contrast to its brightwork. Reported to appear notably solid, it offers an appealing starting point for an enthusiast seeking to return an example of this increasingly uncommon Ford to use, although prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves as to its condition. The vendor advises that the Anglia was running before being taken off the road. Having subsequently been out of use, it will require recommissioning before returning to the road. Accompanying the car is a collection of period literature and documentation, including an old-style logbook, a Leisure Plan book, owner’s handbooks, a 1961 passenger car price list, a lubrication chart and workshop manuals. These items provide useful reference material for future maintenance while adding interest for collectors who appreciate the paperwork associated with a classic vehicle. With its desirable Super specification, appealing colour combination and accompanying literature, this Anglia merits consideration by an enthusiast prepared to return it to the road.
