Description
The Morgan Plus 8 was introduced in 1968, combining Morgan’s traditional lightweight construction and unmistakable styling with the recently developed Rover V8 engine. It quickly became one of the marque’s most celebrated models, offering a distinctive blend of old-school British sports car character and considerable performance. By the late 1990s the Plus 8 had evolved considerably, with the 1997 model year bringing a number of production improvements, including longer doors, revised interior fittings and the availability of the larger 4. 6-litre V8.
Milestone Classics are delighted to offer this 1997 Morgan Plus 8, finished in the particularly attractive Conaught Green, which complements the traditional Morgan shape beautifully. First registered in December 1997, this example has had just two former keepers from new and presents an excellent opportunity to acquire a later Rover V8-powered Plus 8 with a particularly interesting history file.
The history accompanying the car includes the Morgan Owners Handbook, a selection of MOT history and historic tax discs, together with V5 documentation relating to the second owner. There is also a fascinating photocopy of a document recording details held by the Morgan Owners Club, including the chassis and engine numbers, model, right-hand-drive specification, colour, invoice number, date paid, date dispatched and supplying agent. From the information available, it appears that the car may originally have been supplied through Wykehams of London, a name with strong Morgan connections during this period.
Adding further character are the period-style tan leather bonnet strap, lined with sheepskin and finished with a nut-brown buckle, together with matching tan luggage straps. These thoughtful details suit the traditional appearance of the Plus 8 particularly well.
Supplied with spare keys and accompanied by a useful collection of original and historic documentation, this is a very appealing example of one of Morgan’s most enduring sports cars. With only two former keepers from new and its distinctive Conaught Green finish, it is a Morgan that should appeal equally to the enthusiast looking for an enjoyable car to use and enjoy, or the collector seeking a well-documented later Plus 8.
