Description

1970 Morgan Plus 8
Four previous owners

Originally finished in Light Orange with a black interior
A lovely, well-cared-for early Plus 8, with an interesting history and substantial mechanical work carried out over the years. This is a car that has clearly been loved, enjoyed and properly looked after.

Ordered on the Morgan stand at the 1969 Earls Court Motor Show, this Plus 8 was supplied new to Mr Frazer, who was then working in the oil industry in the Gulf of Oman.

During his final factory visit in March 1970, as the car neared completion, Mr Frazer asked to drive it to his garage in Rome rather than have it delivered to Oman. Shell also had a facility there, and his work in Europe gave him the opportunity to tour Italy, Austria and Greece in the Morgan. He even fitted a ski rack for winter holidays in Austria.

In March 1973, he returned the car to the factory for paint touch-ups, new kingpins and other work. It was registered in the UK on 21 November 1974 following his return to Britain for work, before being sold through Motor Sport in 1976. The accompanying history file tells much more of Mr Frazer’s enthusiasm for Morgans, including his later ownership of Aero 8s, with his private registration, 100 TON, following him from Morgan to Morgan.
The second owner, David Saunders, was a civil servant who campaigned the car with various local clubs. During his ownership, side-exit exhausts were fitted; the originals were retained and remain with the car. He also had the bodywork repainted black to match the original interior also fitting wide body fiberglass wings. In 1980, he ordered a new Morgan and placed the Plus 8 with a dealer for sale. It sold in October 1981 with 50, 575 miles recorded, although he soon regretted parting with it.

The third owner continued to use and enjoy the car. The fiberglass wings were replaced with factory correct narrow body wings supplied by Malvern, the floor pan’s were renewed, and the chassis was overhauled..
The car has received considerable mechanical attention over the years mostly with the 3rd owner. Firstly with the rear axle and limited-slip differential were rebuilt in 2001, approximately 8, 000 miles ago. In 2011, at 59, 885 miles, a significant rear main oil leak prompted the removal of the engine, which was sent to J E Developments for significant ettention and upgrades, including over boring to 3. 9 liters, new clutch, oil seal… The clutch master and slave cylinders were replaced, along with the brake master and wheel cylinders. Approximately 3, 000 miles have been covered since the engine rebuild. A new petrol tank was fitted in 2018, followed by rebuild of the Moss gearbox by J. B. Motorsports in 2019, approximately 1, 000 miles ago.

In our clients hands, a cereal owner of Morgan’s upon purchase in September 2025, he sent the car to Track and Classis Automotive for a service and suspension upgrades and new starter motor, again the brakes were overhauled and new Mintex linings, also replace the brake master cylinder and replace caliper piston seals. The suspension was set up for negative camber and adjustable damper fitted. The vendor also points out the notable mention of the Gemmer steering box he had fitted, this is a true driver car which has wanted for nothing.

With low ownership, the major mechanical work attended to and relatively few miles covered since, this is a much-loved Plus 8 ready to be enjoyed. It comes with full wet-weather equipment, including a hood, side screens and tonneau cover.

A car to enjoy life with, in my opinion.
