Here we have my lovely 1968 Land Rover Series 2a Pickup in great condition. I bought her a year ago after months of looking. Regrettably, I have had virtually no time to drive her (only done 300 miles in that time), and with a young family, I do not envisage things will change anytime soon! As such, she spends everyday shut up in my garage which seems a shame, as she is great fun to drive.
It has the 2. 25 petrol engine with a Weber carb conversion and runs sweetly with no smoking at all. The engine bay is immaculate and has clearly had many new parts and been rewired. The gearbox works well in both high and low. It does not have an overdrive, but does have freewheeling hubs.
The chassis is in very good condition and has clearly been looked after. It had its MOT last month (through which it sailed with no advisories) and the garage commented on how good it was. The bulkhead is also in great condition. Both footwells have been neatly replaced.
The bodywork is good, but there are a few minor dents here and there, but none that would detract from the overall condition. I feel they add character and make it more likely that it is used as intended to be! It has been coach painted in bronze green to a good standard, but not immaculate.
The interior is excellent with new seats, and a beautifully restored Smith's heater. Seatbelts are fitted.
As mentioned, it has a recent MOT (11 months remaining), and is taxed until April 2012 (obviously tax FREE). It is dirt cheap to insure (I pay £96 fully comp).
It seems examples like this are coming harder to find - a true British classic which makes a very useable, fun and practical truck. She just needs to go to a home that will use her much more than I will.
Please contact me for any further details/ pictures, and inspection welcome. I live in Bottesford (NG13) near to Grantham.
