Description

It seems that any car which Alfa opted to shoehorn their legendary V6 engine (affectionately known as the "Busso", after its original designer) in is destined to be a bona-fide modern classic, and the early 156 2. 5 is certainly no different. Less than 500 of these now remain on UK roads and finding decent, unmodified and properly cared for examples is becoming ever harder. Which is why this car stood out to us here at italicar.

It has covered just 75k miles from new and has a large pile of service history verifying this. There are eight stamps in the original service book (itself housed in the wallet with a full complement of manuals), along with reams of paperwork. There are receipts ranging from one for the new timing belt and water pump fitted just last week stretching right back to its 12k mile service in 2004. All in all, these bills record a total of nearly £10, 000 worth of careful maintenance and come courtesy of some of the most highly respected specialists in the Alfisti world - such as Richard Drake, Alfashop, Desira, Jamie Porter, and Alfa-Sport. Clearly no expense has been spared and this is one 156 V6 which has definitely been given the attention it deserves. Will be sold with a brand new MoT (the current certificate doesn't expire until October and it flew straight through last time with not a single advisory).

It is also a very rare spec' which, on paper, might not sound the most appealing but, in the metal, works a charm. Finished in metallic green livery, with the thick cloth upholstery (drastically more comfortable than the usual leather seats, in fact!) also in green and the stylish, high-gloss wooden centre console, gear knob and steering wheel setting it all off uniquely. Eccentric it may be, but I for one find it very tasteful indeed. It also stands refreshingly unmolested, with the original Alfa stereo still working and in place, the hard-to-find thick overmats protecting the carpet and the understated 15" pepperpot alloys have also survived without being swapped for the ubiquitous teledials.

It wasn't that long ago that, say, a 75 V6 was reasonably affordable was it? Now, their values have rocketed and they're getting on to cost the same as a decent deposit for a house! How much longer will you be able to pick up such a lovely 156 V6 for this sort of money?
