Beschreibung
A rare opportunity to purchase a kit of parts for a Riley 12/ 4 special. Could be used to build a track/ hillclimb car, or a light weight road car. I’ve listed below the parts included as shown in the photographs. For sale only to fund another project. Very sensibly priced for a quick sale.
Underslung chassis (origin unknown)
12/ 4 engine for rebuild, including:-
• Twin carb inlet manifold
• Twin SU carbs (RM type)
• Twin carb air filter
• Lucas DK4 distributor
• Stored at least 30 years and not messed with.
Preselector gearbox (Riley/ Armstrong type)
• Correct bellhousing & input shaft
• Propellor shaft for shortening
• Muff coupling
12/ 4 narrow track front axle, including:-
• Stub axles
• Backplates for rod brakes
• Pair of adjusters for rebuild
• Pair of drums
• (No front hubs)
Narrow track back axle, including:-
• Banjo undamaged and not rusty
• Differential & pinion assembly
• Half shafts with hubs for knock-on wheels
• Back plates for rod brakes with stub axles & seal holders
• Pair of brake drums
• Pair of adjusters for rebuild
Torque tube & clamp (shortened), suitable for rod brakes
Four knock-on wheels for rolling around the workshop. (Will of course need rebuilding for road use)
Two further knock-on wheels for rebuild (not pictured)
Steering column assembly (vintage type) with sound 9hp type wheel (flat, smaller diameter than 12/ 4, ideal for a special)
• 2 off steering arms
• Drag link & linkage to drop arm
A set of four road springs of the correct length for the chassis.
A pair of unmachined bronze castings for rear shackles
Radiator shell (narrow, stainless 9hp type)
12/ 4 specials are rapidly appreciating in price, so this kit offers probably one of the last opportunities to buy an entry-level kit. A quick google will reveal that the last such kit (albeit with a body) sold recently at auction for about £24k. Completed cars regularly fetch over £60k. The price reflects what it stands me at, excluding all the time taken to collect the bits!
As far as I can see, there is no chassis number stamped anywhere, and there is no V5 with the car. However, I do have an uncancelled buff log book for the correct year which will be included in the sale.
Inspection welcome and positively encouraged. The parts are located in Stockport, close to the M60.
