Description
Here is my listing for my much loved 1927 Ford Model T Roadster.
Unfortunately I am selling my car as I now need something a little bigger and more practical for travelling the country. I’ve owned this car just over 3 years now and I’ve really, really enjoyed it. I have spent the last year restoring this car to use as my wedding car, and it really completed our day.
Chassis:
The chassis is an extended 1960 ford prefect chassis, which shows absolutely no sign of rust or rot. It carries a ford pop front axle with Anglia 105e brakes and an Anglia 105e rear axle. With an open front end, the engine and front axles are really easy to access with no wings or guards in the way, I managed to remove the engine and gear box completely within a couple of hours. When I first got the car it was fitted with a ford pop steering box on the end of a ford pop extended steering column, I found the box wasn’t quite up to the job and made the steering very heavy. I have replaced the box system with a brand new ford mk2 escort steering rack (with new bushes/ brackets etc), which makes handling SO much lighter and can be turned with just one hand now. This was only fitted 6 months ago so has a lifetime ahead of it.
Engine:
The engine is a fiat 2. 0 Twincam with Twin Weber 40 carbs and comes with brand new air filters. It’s an amazing engine, which sounds great and really does pull well. It starts on the button (video available on request) and gets up to temperature with no issue. No leaks or smokes anywhere and I’ve never known it to over heat in traffic (and I’ve sat in enough of it!). The engine has been recently taken out, cleaned up and painted to make it look a little fresher for our wedding.
Gearbox:
The gearbox is an Abarth 5 speed gearbox that compliments the engine perfectly. It really picks up and goes through each gear but rarely needs 5th, as sitting at 65/ 70 in 4th is perfect. The gearbox has been re-built and re-painted less than approximately 40 miles ago. It was re-built for the wedding, used on the wedding day to get to the venue and then has been stored since. So a guess of 40 miles is probably way more than what it’s actually done. A brand new 3 piece clutch was also fitted at the same time.
Interior:
When I first got the car it was made of cardboard panels covered in Mexican blanket. Not really my cup of tea so I remade the panels from plywood about 2. 5 years ago and covered them in newspaper trimmings (sounds odd, but it got loads of attention) and then for the wedding I had the panels re-trimmed and covered in Diamond Quilted leather. I repainted the seat backs to match the accents and covered the cushions in the same quilted leather as the door cards about 6 months ago. The carpet was also done 6 months ago by a professional carpet fitter. The dashboard is a ford pop Bakelite dashboard recently sprayed the same time as the body. The Speedo fits behind the dash perfectly and has a speedo, fuel and temperature gauge all built in. I’ve not got round to getting the cables for this and fitting it in place properly. There are no gauges working at the moment as I stripped them all out before the wedding and never got round to re-doing them. There is an inside hatch which opens up to reveal a small toolbox and some interior space (big enough for some essential travel items).
Exterior:
It’s a hand made two-door 1927 ford model T body made of steel (solid) which has been dry stored since I’ve had it with not a spot of rot or rust on it!. I do have the build progress pictures, which I was given when I bought it from the guy who made it. It has a fully detachable bonnet top, which I rarely use as I love the open front look! The Bulkhead has been painted ford flame red to match the seat backs, wheels and Rocker Covers. The car DOES have a detachable hard top roof that comes with the sale, which if I’m honest, I’ve never used. I have too much fun in it as a convertible. The frame of the roof looks as though it is made of Steel bars and has detachable window panels which fit onto the door to make it a fully enclosed hard top, or a pillar less convertible. Roof will need re-fitting to the car more permanently so cannot be driven away with the roof on. The doors are suicide doors.
Like I said, I don’t use to the roof so it hasn’t been painted the same as the car but is still black. Unsure of what the roof is made of however there are a few cracks and splits in it, which could be patched in quite easily. The boot space at the rear reveals the battery tray and could be used as more storage space if you wanted to fit a floor pan in it.
The wheels are all 15” in diameter, which were powder coated red about 8 months ago and all 4 tyres have plenty of tread on. The rear two tyres are big beefy white walls with plenty of life in them. There is a slight chunk taken out on one wall due the straps on the trailer it was transported on. Does not affect the tyre, and it passed through the MOT just fine.
Electrics:
All lighting works as it should; front lights, rear lights, brake lights, hazards, and license plate lights all work perfectly. The indicator stalk used to work fine, but I have pulled some wires around on the inside and believe to have pulled one loose so will just need looking at or could replace the system for less than £30. The Engine starts on a button and the horn works on a spring switch. Radiator fan also works on a switch and keeps the engine at the correct tempreture. The wiper motor did work in the past but now doesn’t, I may have re-wired it up wrong (I’m no pro) but haven’t looked into it too much since. Battery was replaced 6 months ago with a brand new one.
MOT & Tax:
Being a 1960 Chassis, the tax is free but must be registered each year. It is currently SORN and the MOT ran out last month, The last MOT threw up one advisory which was “both king pins have slight movement (need re-grease)”. The logbook currently has it registered as a 3500cc engine, I haven’t got round to changing this yet as I did intent to put a v8 Rover in it eventually.
I have all the paperwork for each MOT and the Log Book.
This is a seriously fun car to own and drive. I really don’t want to sell it, but I know it will just sit in my garage for the next 10/ 20 years as I won’t have the time to get round to playing with it or using it. There are not many cars that come up like this, but I know what it’s worth, so no time wasters and no ridiculous offers please. You’re more than welcome to come and view, but test drives will be done by me and only if I think you are genuinely interested
This car is a project and will need some bits doing to it to make it 'perfect' but all the hard work has been done and it can easily be enjoyed as it is. I’ve listed this as honestly as I can, but I may have missed one or two things, I will update if I think of anything and will answer as many questions as I can. First person to view will want to take it with them. Buyer to Collect and trailer away due to no MOT. Cash on collection would be preferred or bank transfer, Sold as seen and no refunds/ returns.
