This bike was purchased new in 1974 by a Wagga Wagga local. The original buyer and his good friend, a German Wagga White Goods repairer by the name of Jim ?, each purchased new Desmo singles. Jim bought a 350 and his friend bought this 450. After a few years Jim sold the 350 and regretted it so much that he talked his good friend into selling his 450. Unfortunately, on his first ride the 450 kicked-back & broke Jims ankle, and the bike was put into storage and never again ridden.
Restoration: The present owner acquired this beautiful bike in 2001 & undertook the following refurbishment work.
Paint touched-up; colour matched to original from under front mudguard.
Frame hand-sanded & repainted in standard black.
Seat recovered
Rims stripped, polished and re-laced
Engine strip-down, clearances checked & new bearings throughout
Cylinder rebore & new 1st over size piston
Cylinder head overhauled by Phil Hitchcock of Road and Race.
Chrome Conti exhaust.
Rewired to 12v.
Point’s ignition overhaul.
Koni rear shocks
General Information: This bike has the correct numbers and is a genuine 450 Desmo. A great sounding and very appealing motorcycle. One of 137 originally imported and sold new to Australia in 1974.
