Taking advantage of a commercial association with FOCA ( Formula One Builders Association ), and the big publicity of the F1 Brazil GP that was held in Jacarepaguá, Rio de Janeiro, Ford introduced the Escort XR3 as a "car-godmother" in the proof and launched the special series Escort XR3 Pace Car. - Only Diamond White with two-tone blue side bands with the inscription "Pace Car Formula 1 Brazil" in white, adding the "Formula 1" emblem in blue on the cap rear, in the same font of the letter "Escort XR3" on the trunk lid and "Ford Motorsport" sticker.
Ford decided to take advantage of the event to launch a limited special series of the XR3, which was sold as an official replica of the car's sponsor. The Escort XR3 Formula 1 Pace Car had only 30 units manufactured, being one of the rarest special versions produced in Brazil.
Less than half of the copies have their whereabouts known, and this is possibly the only well preserved copy currently on sale.
