Description

Model History: The Ferrari BB512, first presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1976, marked a significant evolution in the Prancing Horse marque's line of rear-engined saloon cars. It followed on from the 365 GT4 BB, the first road-going Ferrari to feature a Formula 1-inspired flat 12-cylinder mid-engine. The name BB stands for Berlinetta Boxer, although the engine was actually a flat V12 rather than a true boxer. The number 512 refers to its 5-litre capacity and 12 cylinders. Unlike the 365 BB, the BB512 adopts a dry sump, a technology inherited from racing, which improves lubrication in intensive use and lowers the centre of gravity. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. With its Pininfarina-designed blend of elegance and aggression, the BB512 has a low, taut silhouette typical of the grand tourers of the 1970s. At the time, it was positioned as a direct competitor to the Lamborghini Countach. Produced between 1976 and 1981, only 929 carburetted Ferrari BB512s were made, making it a rare and highly sought-after model among collectors. It was later replaced by the BB512i, equipped with electronic fuel injection. A symbol of an era when performance was combined with elegant craftsmanship, the BB512 remains a major piece of Ferrari history, combining cutting-edge technology, pure aesthetics and incomparable driving sensations. History of this Ferrari BB512 with carburettors: Delivered new in Italy in 1980, this BB512 was acquired by its second Italian owner in 1986, who kept it preciously until 2015, when we acquired it. It was then sold to a French enthusiast, its third and last owner to date. Recently returned from Italy, it underwent a complete engine rebuild in Maranello and now has its Ferrari Classiche certification. Body: The body is in excellent condition, perfectly sound, with exemplary door and bonnet adjustments. The paintwork has a beautiful patina, with no scratches or dents. Upholstery: The interior is superb: the original black leathers are in excellent condition, the doorways have been replaced and the original carpets are spotless. Engine: The original engine has been fully restored at Tony's Maranello facility. It benefits from a new clutch, new belts and a replaced ignition wire set. High-quality mechanical work has been carried out, in line with the marque's standards. Gearbox: Refurbished at the same time as the engine, the gearbox works to perfection. Drivetrain: Roadholding is beyond reproach. The front axle is stable, with no anomalies or parasitic noise to report. The suspension is in excellent condition, providing exemplary roadholding. Braking: The brakes, freshly overhauled, provide effective, in-line braking, in line with the requirements of a model of this standing.
