Description
Presented at the very start of the 1980s, the second generation of the BMW 5 Series is named the E28. There will be a Phase 1 up to 1985 and a Phase 2 up to 1988, the year when the E28 is replaced by the BMW 5 Series E34. Obviously, there were different powertrains: the 518i in 4 cylinders, 520i, 525i and 528i in 6 cylinders, and not forgetting the more powerful versions in M535i and M5, the first in the line.
The BMW M535i was developed by the M division and its mechanics are identical to those of the 635 CSi, i. e. a 6-cylinder inline engine of 3430 cc developing 218 hp with plenty of character and a superb melody. The BMW E28 was a major commercial success for BMW, which thus continued the premium-car trajectory that we know today.
NYC's/ OXOTO is putting up for sale here a magnificent concours-condition example, really! Delivered new in April 1986 in Belgium, it has had only three Belgian owners. We indeed have the previous Belgian registration certificates and better yet: the delivery invoice from when it was new! In Polaris Grey, black sport fabric interior, it currently shows under 75, 400 km. Proof that it is in excellent condition: it was exhibited at the Autoworld museum in December 2017 during the BMW 100-year exhibition (photo available). It is therefore an example that truly has its place in a magnificent collection!
The bodywork presents superbly, absolutely nothing to report despite still being in its original paint (see photos with the tester)! It shows no signs of corrosion, nor dents, nor scratches. It has never been involved in an accident either.
The interior is equally pristine, absolutely nothing to complain about either, whether the sport seats, the dashboard, the central console, the carpets, the door trims, etc... like new, really, as the photos show. The preservation quality of the interior as well as the exterior is consistent with a very low mileage for its age. Everything also works (sunroof operation, radio, etc.).
As for the mechanicals, nothing is due for replacement; the owner has carried out maintenance and a check-up before putting it up for sale. We also have a solid file of maintenance invoices, see photos on our site, as well as on the ramp where you can see that everything is in as-new condition!
Note also that it is in original condition and has not been mechanically or aesthetically modified.
