L'Atelier des 1000 is pleased to offer for sale today an exceptional car, an M3 E30 Johnny Cecotto Edition, in its magnificent Misano Red colour and black leather interior. Born for racing, the M3 E30 is one of the most successful models in the history of motorsport, developed to dominate the DTM and Group A circuits. In 1989, to celebrate the exploits of Johnny Cecotto, the Venezuelan prodigy and talented driver who shone in the M3 on the greatest circuits, BMW launched a very special series in his name.
Produced in just 480 examples, the M3 Cecotto is now one of the most exclusive and sought-after models in the line-up. Technically, it is based on the mechanical base of the M3 Evo I, with its 2. 3L 215 bhp engine coupled to a 5-speed gearbox, while adopting a body kit and a number of aesthetic details inspired by the M3 Evolution II, giving it an even more assertive appearance. This edition therefore combines sharpened performance with a top-of-the-range presentation: specific colours, exclusive sports upholstery, meticulous finishes and enhanced equipment.
Everything has been designed to appeal to demanding enthusiasts and discerning connoisseurs. More than just an M3, the Johnny Cecotto is a true collector's item, at the crossroads of history, competition and German refinement. Our car, of French origin, was registered in September 1989 in the south of France by its first owner.
It has benefited from rigorous maintenance, as evidenced by its service book and a large file of BMW invoices dating back to 1990.
In 1994, the engine was replaced by a new BMW unit, in accordance with the state of the art, ensuring optimum reliability for the rest of its life.
Since 2016, this M3 has been carefully preserved and maintained in a prestigious private collection. Its current owner has now entrusted us with the sale of this superb example. It is number 331, as indicated by its official number plate, a fact confirmed by the BMW certificate of authenticity supplied with all the vehicle's original documentation. Mechanically, this M3 performs wonderfully. The engine starts without difficulty, without any suspicious noise or smoke. It is enhanced by the sound of a Supersprint stainless steel muffler, which enhances the unique voice of this competition engine. The 5-speed manual gearbox works perfectly, with quick, fluid gear changes. The steering is precise, the running gear has no play whatsoever, and the roadholding is quite simply remarkable, thanks in particular to the installation of modern Bilstein shock absorbers. The original black BBS wheels, specific to this edition, are in excellent condition and fitted with semi-slick tyres that are also in very good condition. Aesthetically, the paintwork looks very good. The bodywork alignments are also excellent. The underpinnings are sound and the chassis is completely corrosion-free. The original upholstery is very well preserved, with a slight patina that lends it all its charm.
The interior as a whole is in excellent condition, with perfectly functional instrumentation. Given the condition and rarity of this vehicle, we are asking €130, 000 for it.
