Description
History of the model:
Presented in 1978, the Aston Martin V8 Volante marks the return of the open-top car at Aston Martin, after the DB6. Directly derived from the DBS, it retains its elegant lines while adding the pleasure of open-air driving.
This model stands out for a level of finish particularly high for the era, with a refined interior incorporating a burr walnut dashboard, as well as modernised comfort equipment, notably improved air conditioning. The hood, designed by George Mosely – already responsible for the Rolls-Royce Corniche – is renowned for its build quality and its excellent longevity.
Produced in only 656 examples, of which around 240 were left-hand drive before the Series 2 arrived in 1986, the V8 Volante is today a sought-after model for its exclusivity and character.
History of this Aston Martin AMV8
Newly sold in August 1981 in France, this Aston Martin underwent its first ownership change in June 1991, before moving to Marseille where it remained until December 2008.
It then returned to the Île-de-France region, where it was acquired by its current owner in November 2010. Since 2008, this V8 Volante has been regularly serviced in our workshops, ensuring serious and continuous maintenance.
Bodywork
The car presents a very healthy body, with a quality structure. The shell was stripped and then completely repainted by Lecoq Bodyshop at the start of the 2000s. The paint today retains a lovely presentation, although a few cosmetic imperfections are to be noted.
Upholstery
It retains its original beige leather upholstery, in very good condition. The seats and door panels show an elegant, even patina, perfectly in keeping with the spirit of the car. The carpets as well as the hood are also very well preserved.
Engine
This Aston Martin is equipped with its 5. 3 L V8 matching-numbers engine, regularly serviced in our workshops since 2008. It delivers excellent oil pressure, even when hot, and healthy operation, taking revs with ease, faithful to the powerful yet smooth character of the Aston Martin V8s of that era. Note a slight oil seepage at the top of the engine, with no impact on mechanical performance.
Gearbox
The car is fitted with its automatic transmission, well maintained. Gear changes are smooth and regular, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable drive.
Chassis & brakes
The running gear is in good working order, ensuring stable handling coherent with the model’s standards. The braking system is functional and offers sound behavior, in keeping with the vehicle’s performance.
