Description
The BMW E9 Coupé under the famous slogan "Freude ** Fahren" (the pleasure of driving), BMW promoted the CS coupés, elegant and with perfect shapes. They are undoubtedly among BMW's milestones — notably — because of their fantastic six-cylinder engine with satin-smooth torque and turbine-like aesthetics, and their very elegant design. This engine, later called the M30, would become one of the pillars of BMW's good reputation as an engine manufacturer (and was kept in the range until 1996, with, of course, a wide range of variations). The block is grey cast iron, the cylinder head is made of light alloy, the overhead camshaft is driven by a chain; by varying the bore, displacements between 2. 5 and 3. 5 litres could be obtained. The bodies were built between 1968 and 1975 in subcontracting by BMW at Karmann in Rheine, then transported to Munich to be completed. Not necessarily the best idea, because on the long transport journey some vehicles suffered considerably from the weather at the time, such that many vehicles disappeared from the market as early as the 1980s. The design is attributed to Wilhelm Hofmeister — the famous "Hofmeister kink" at the C-pillar. But we already see this stabilising crease in the BMW 3200 CS, designed by Bertone. In any case, Italian styling elements are undeniably present on the BMW E9, which largely contributes to the lightness and finesse of its appearance. The early models were the 170 hp 2800 CS, followed by the 3. 0 CS (180 hp) in carburetted form. In the autumn of 1971, the first petrol-injected model variant, the 3. 0 CSI (200 hp), was added. Lightweight CSL versions were built from 1971 to 1975 and were aimed at ambitious sporty drivers. In the wake of the oil crisis, the 2500 CS (150 hp) was launched in 1974 as an "economical" coupé, with limited success. The Scuderia Sportiva Colonia paid particular attention to these technically advanced coupés. The enchanting shape, excellent chassis, very good brakes and the powerful engine were — at the start of the 70s — the absolute benchmark. The cabin pampers its owner with luxurious materials; the blue velour interior is still original. After more than 50 years, a light patina surrounds this magnificent coupé. This CSI seduces with its untouched originality. The previous owners resisted the temptation to decorate this E9 with spoilers, inappropriate steering wheels or rancid wheel sets. Air conditioning is fitted as standard, but its operation must still be tested and, in any case, it must be refilled. Moreover, this CSI undoubtedly belongs to this category: it has clearly never been involved in an accident, no restoration has been carried out, the interior is covered in original velour and in excellent condition, the bodywork has been repainted once, the chrome has a hint of patina. At the critical points, no defects. The missing and faulty toolkit in the trunk lid will be replaced by a new toolkit before delivery. On request and for a separate invoiced cost, we offer our 154-point Scuderia pre-delivery check. Summary To date, BMW E9 models are regarded as some of the most beautiful BMWs ever built. They offer space for 4 people and their relatively large boot allows for ample luggage. Few 1970s cars combine elegance, sportiness and comfort so pleasantly as the BMW E9. Scuderia Sportiva Colonia has set itself the mission of dedicating itself with...
