Known history
A Giorgetto Giugiaro design for Bertone, the 2600 Sprint coupé has the privilege of being Alfa Romeo’s last inline-six with double overhead camshafts. Beyond its very flowing lines, this elegant Italian GT stands out for its extraordinary performance for its era. With a top speed around 200 km/ h, Italian dolce vita is lived at full tilt! A feature of the Sprint (also found on the Spider) is the triple two-barrel carburettors.
A rare car, with production not exceeding 7, 000 units. You’ll need to rise early to find a specimen in good condition on the collector’s market.
The car shown here is a rare example fitted with the optional Borrani wheels and Dell'Orto carburettion. An aesthetic asset as the wire wheels make this 2600 more desirable than ever, and a sonic asset thanks to the enthralling melody of the Italian carburettors. It is furthermore in its original livery.
Delivered in 1962 in Sussex (driven on the left), it later travelled to Stavanger in Norway. It was part of the "Klubb Alfa Romeo Norge" until 2023 and its arrival in France.
After researching with the club, we had the chance to speak with one of its owners who bought it in 1994 and who led a complete body restoration in the 2000s and a engine rebuild in 2016.
The paint is aesthetically pleasing, with some minor ageing defects due to time. The Borrani wheels are in excellent condition.
A inspection on the hoist allowed us to verify good chassis and underbody condition. The appraisal highlighted the absence of corrosion.
A body restoration was carried out in 2003: stripping, sandblasting and restoration of worn elements as well as a special treatment. Front and rear suspensions were dropped, as evidenced by photos provided by the owner at the time.
The burgundy leather interior has been restored in 2013: seats and door panels are well presented. The dashboard shows no defects, as does the headlining. The carpets are standard condition. The instrumentation is functional. The electrical loom has been largely rebuilt.
Noting for family outings, there are four comfortable seats, making it a versatile grand tourer.
Under the bonnet, it is matching-numbers. In fact, it has a type 00608 engine corresponding to the 1964 model, whereas the 1962 engine is type 00601.
The engine was fully rebuilt by the second owner in 2016: pistons, rings, bearings. The cylinder head was pressure-tested and valve seats changed to run on unleaded. The gearbox and clutch were opened for a full service.
The car is currently serviced and tracked by a specialist garage; recent outlays include:
- clutch kit
- fuel pump
- master cylinder and brake booster
- custom oil hoses
- starter motor
The last service dated April 2024: engine, gearbox and rear axle oil changes; belt checks; ultrasonic cleaning of the three carburettors and synchronisation.
The battery is new. The four tyres show 10% wear.
For lovers of Italian GTs, here is a chance to own a relatively rare model on our roads. A small production for a mythical car!
A known history, a compliant and expertly verified car that awaits its new owner.
