Overdrive is offering for sale this rare 1968 Lotus Elan S4 “Fixed Head Coupé” Type 36 (FHC).
Produced between 1968 and 1971 in a run of fewer than 3, 000 units, it represents the final evolution of the Elan, a classic model preceding the arrival of the Sprint.
It is prized by collectors for its excellent balance, precise steering, and light weight, which offer an incomparable driving experience.
The S4 remains faithful to the original design, combining a steel space-frame chassis with a fiberglass body, for a weight of just 715 kg!
It differs from previous versions with slightly widened rear fenders.

History:
This example was delivered in England and has a beautifully well-documented history, as the file includes all technical inspections from 1975 to the present (English MOT + French technical inspections since 2008).
The car was fully restored in the late 1990s, with a photo dossier and details of the work performed.
The engine was also rebuilt by a specialist.
The current owner acquired it in 2007 from Paul Matty Sports Car, a renowned Lotus specialist, who also performed the conversion to left-hand drive (LHD) for import.
Recent expenses include a cylinder block resurfacing by a specialist.
In preparation for the sale, we performed the following in our workshops: replacement of the fuel lines, carburettor adjustment, and maintenance of the choke and heating system.
