We are pleased to present this Mercedes‑Benz 250 SL “Pagoda” from June 1967, delivered in cabriolet specification with a removable hard-top, finished in an exterior shade of Blue 335 H and an interior in Bordeaux.
We have a complete history from 1968, confirming that this Pagoda has had only three Lyon owners.
One of them kept it with care for nearly forty-eight years, from 1970 to 2018, before it joined its current owner.
The 250 SL model, produced from the end of 1966 to the beginning of 1968, is distinguished by its 2. 5-litre straight-six developing 150 hp, as well as the introduction of disc brakes on the rear wheels and increased torque—giving it a more relaxed drive while retaining the road-going qualities of the “Pagoda” line.
An important feature of our example is that it was delivered new with the highly prized ZF 5-speed manual gearbox (option code 232). According to the factory, fewer than 5% of production were fitted with it from new due to its significant extra cost—this gives the car a particularly enjoyable driving feel.
Its bodywork has recently been refinished and now wears Blue 335 H, beautifully matched with the Bordeaux interior: an elegant contrast that highlights the line drawn by Paul Bracq, characterised by its concave roof section (hence the nickname “Pagoda”) and well-balanced proportions.
Inside, largely original, Mercedes heritage is clearly evident: the Bordeaux leather upholstery, timber features on the dashboard and the centre console, and a refined cockpit that blends functional simplicity with fine materials.
We also have its Hard Top, in a colour matched to the bodywork, as well as the roll-bar system with a brand-new navy blue mohair hood.
The vehicle has always been maintained rigorously, including recent work: differential overhaul, gearbox service, clutch, steering box, front suspension (AV), the complete braking system, front and rear shock absorbers…
