A rare 1972 Lotus Elan Sprint, the ultimate and most powerful version in the Elan range (‘big valve’ engine, 126 cv for just 600 kg). With only around 1, 300 units produced, this Sprint version is now one of the most sought-after by collectors.
History and mileage
• First registered: 14/ 01/ 1972
• In our ownership since 24/ 09/ 2020
• Original mileage on purchase: 16, 440 miles
• Current mileage: 16, 814 miles (i. e. only 374 miles covered in 5 years, mainly during post-restoration test drives)
Work carried out
Complete mechanical and structural restoration, carried out without compromise:
• Complete strip-down: separation of chassis, body, engine and gearbox
• Stripping, anti-corrosion treatment and repainting of the chassis and running gear
• Complete dismantling, cleaning and reassembly of the engine with new gaskets
• Dismantling and replacement of the gearbox synchronisers
• Reassembly of the engine and gearbox onto the chassis
• Refitting of the bodywork to the chassis
• Various other restoration work
This Elan Sprint has never really been used since its complete restoration for health reasons: it is roadworthy, in a mechanical condition close to new.
This Elan forms part of a Lotus collection, alongside a 1972 Europa with a Gordini engine which will shortly be offered for sale.
