The Appeal
The W114 is that rarest of saloons, one that, when new, worked equally in the executive parking space as queuing up for punters on a taxi rank. Or today, as these photos show, lining up outside plush hotels or beside some modern street art. Wherever it goes, there’s something about Paul Bracq’s timeless lines that means it adds style and appeal to any scene.
That is especially true of this car because it’s grey paintwork and red interior is a particularly beguiling combination. It is a really tidy, pre-facelift car with the double bumpers to go along with those classic stack headlights. The interior is a particular delight, its acres of red leatherette, with matching dashboard and carpets, presenting well and appearing to be largely original.
The vendor acquired the car in 2023. He tells us that there is a large history file documenting regular work. Recent mechanical attention has been thorough; the twin carburettors have been ultrasonically cleaned and tuned, a new bespoke stainless-steel exhaust has been fitted, and the car has been serviced with fresh fluids, new engine mounts, a refurbished starter motor, and new tyres. The vendor states the engine now runs beautifully and describes the car as a real head turner. Judging by the photos, we’d agree.
