The Appeal
The Mercedes-Benz 380 SLC was the final evolution of the SLC coupé line, produced for just 16 months between May 1980 and September 1981. As the closed-roof sibling of the R107 SL, the C107 offered a stretched wheelbase: 35 cm longer, and once sat at the very top of the Mercedes-Benz range, at one point the brand's most expensive model. The 380 SLC brought a lighter 3.8-litre all-alloy V8 and a revised four-speed automatic gearbox, marking the culmination of the model's development. With only 3,789 examples built worldwide and approximately 70 believed to remain on UK roads, it is a genuinely rare machine.
This right-hand-drive example was first registered in September 1981, the final month of production. It has covered 57,500 miles from new across just three former registered keepers and has been in its current ownership for 13 years. Finished in silver over black leather, the car presents well both inside and out. The current owner has invested substantially in restoration and upkeep, with work spanning bodywork, a full rewire, brakes, exhaust and coil springs. A handful of minor cosmetic items are noted, including some bubbling on the boot lid and an indicator flasher relay that needs attention. This example also carries a touch of cultural cachet, having appeared in several fashion magazines and an Adidas campaign. MOT, road tax, and ULEZ-exempt as a historic vehicle. This is an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire a well-maintained, late-production 380 SLC.
