The Appeal
Introduced in 1982, the W201 marked Mercedes-Benz’s entry into the compact executive market and remained in production until 1993, with more than 1.8 million examples built. Penned under the direction of legendary designer Bruno Sacco, the ‘Baby Benz’ combined restrained styling with exceptional refinement and quickly established itself as a benchmark in its class.
In the years since, the W201 has earned an almost legendary reputation among enthusiasts and is widely regarded as one of the most over-engineered Mercedes-Benz models ever produced, having benefited from a development programme reportedly costing around £600 million. The result was a car renowned not for outright performance or lavish equipment, but for its remarkable solidity, durability and sense of quality.
Finished in a typically tasteful colour combination, this 190E would make an ideal daily driver as well as a comfortable and stylish companion for tours, shows and enthusiast events. Originally collected from the factory by its first owner in 1991, it retains its original German registration plates, providing an appealing link to its early history that is sure to resonate with Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts.
