Here for sale we are delighted to present this really good looking Series 3 - sold to us from a local gentleman.
On the outside, this vehicle has lots of nice period features, such as the front and rear lamp guards, rear grabhandles and original galvanised cappings. There is a recent canvas, and the vehicle sits on a matching set of recent limestone road-biased modular wheels and tyres, with larger defender mirrors for increased visibility out on the road. All of this combined means this really is a handsome truck - with the right balance of modern items, such as the tyres and mirrors, with the classic look of the lamp guards and the original galvanised cappings. It turns heads wherever it goes, perhaps due to the unmolested nature of it.
The interior houses three front standard seats, a recent item, with deluxe matting to the footwells. A seat-belt bar has been fitted to allow for 3 point inertia reel belts and the rear is fitted with a load mat on the rear floor. The dash is also in good condition, not suffering from the sun cracking and tears that is the Achilles heel of most series 3 models. The original hand throttle is on the bulkhead, and the vehicle also has a 12v socket to the left of the steering wheel for charging phones/ sat navs if required.
Out on the road, this vehicle drives nicely, partly due to the road-biased rubber. The diesel engine has evidently had some attention, with recent glowplugs and strong figures in the compression tests - it starts with minimal smoke which clears, and pulls as well as any period diesel we've had in recent times. The free wheeling hubs maximise fuel economy and prevent front axle wear.
In summary then, if you are looking for a good value way into Land Rover® ownership, in a solid and period vehicle, then this could be for you. This would be an ideal weekend toy, both for summer nights and the tricky winter conditions. With classic insurance, it should prove cheap to run and a solid investment for the future.
