Description
A very rare and original car this is one of only three Salon De Ville's known to survive.
This delightful car has a very interesting history and long term ownership.
A huge history file is with the car documenting its life and long term ownership.
The car was in the Tony Durose collection at Hatfield House for almost 20 years.
Then under the custodianship of Ron Cobb cars of Henlow Village Bedfordshire a well known specialist in Veteran and Vintage vehicles.
A total engine rebuild was commissioned by recognised Wolseley specialists Wells Garage in Hitchen Hertfordshire and completed in 1992.
The mileage that the car has completed since the rebuild is now only 3, 300 miles so only just run in.
The previous owner kept the car in a dry air conditioned garage for 26 years and the car was maintained for that period by H Horsfield and son of Halifax.
Horsfield's are renowned Rolls Royce and Bentley specialists, coachbuilders
and restorers.
The car was used only an average of 48 miles per annum.
Condition wise it is a real time warp and still maintains its original leather interior and wood work.
The opening windsreen and large sliding sunroof all work and add to the charm.
The underneath is very sound with an excellent chassis and floor.
The body work is very sound and presentable.
The carpets were original and need replacing.
Mechanically the car drives well and has recently been driven on trips between Halifax and the Peak District over the Pennines and Holme Moss with no problems.
The Tyres are good with excellent tread and no perishing.
General model History.
The 26th June 1936 saw the introduction of the series II -14/ 56 Saloon replacing the earlier "New Fourteen" along with a limited production of the Salon de Ville variant being produced in 1936.( Three survive and one is reputed to be in Aberdeenshire with a tree growing through it)
The 14/ 56 became one of the most popular models to be produced with about 15, 000 during the short life of the series II.
Unlike the Morris equivalent of the time, the Wolseley 14/ 56 featured the overhead 25 HP engine with a four speed gearbox along with easy clean pressed steel wheels.
A Jackall system was available which raised either two or all four wheels off the ground.
