Replica 1930 Baby Bugatti Type 52 Electric Car - Half Scale Type 35
The original "Baby" Bugatti, also known as the Type 52, was produced between 1927 and 1936. It was a half-scale childrens car and is now the cheapest Bugatti you can buy, whilst also being the most expensive childrens car you can buy!
The Baby Bugatti was originally designed by Ettore Bugatti as a plaything for his five-year-old son, Roland. The car was exhibited at the Milan Auto Salon in 1927 and apparently caused enough of a stir among wealthy parents to put the car into 'production.' The car was closely modelled on the Type 35 and was a very accurate scale model. The Type 52 was lengthened, however, so that kids could fit inside. These cars were surprisingly popular in the 1920's and 30's among celebrities and tycoons for their children. There were even some semi-competitive race leagues where kids would race each other as a sort of side show during races like Monte Carlo.
Several later Baby Bugatti replicas have been produced around the world by makers such as Pur Sang, Winkler, Harrah and Crosthwaite & Gardner in the UK. This version is believed to be one of Crosthwaite & Gardner's cars.
It is in very good, running condition with only a few very minor blemishes. It is hand-built aluminium construction and bodywork finished in blue, with chromed radiator with Bugatti badge applied, fitted with rear-mounted 12-Volt electric motor featuring forward and reverse drive, cast alloy wheels with pneumatic tyres, leather seat, removable bonnet secure with leather straps and spare wheel, measuring approximately195cm long overall.
