- Started life as a European-delivered 1997(MY) 993 ‘S’ coupe; now fully UK-registered
- Race/ track-prepared in Italy with no expense spared in 2012 by Porsche motorsport specialists Autorlando-Sport of Pedrengo
- Enhanced and fitted out to a very high specification, including a 3. 8-litre 340bhp engine with Cup intake, full sports chassis, GEMS ECU engine management system, brake bias system, multi-point roll-cage, Cargraphi exhaust and Sabelt Monte Carlo seats
- Purchased by a prominent Greek car collector in 2014 and in 2015 sent to UK specialists Paragon Porsche for a full engine rebuild and a gearbox upgrade to RS-spec (c£23, 000); very little use since
- Tested by Paragon Porsche around the Donnington Circuit and said to be "almost as quick as a Cup car"
- A very special, lightweight, road-legal, track-day machine with a very good pedigree, at a tempting guide
The 993 was the final generation of air-cooled 911s, and as such will always have a special place in the affections of Porsche enthusiasts. It is also widely said to be the last of the 911s that were built whilst engineering integrity overruled accounting pressures at Porsche. Twenty years on, it still looks modern - a truly timeless design.
The 993 ‘Cup’ car followed on from where the 964 ‘Cup’ left off, a purpose-built racing car designed for Porsche’s one-make racing series and helped to further cement the legendary status of the 911 as a motorsport icon. Original 993 ‘Cup’ cars still qualify for a number of championships worldwide and are ideal for anyone considering taking up historic racing, representing excellent value for money, but still command a price-tag of £200, 000 or more, when compared to the likes of the RSR and GT2 models.
The car presented here started life as a European-delivered 1997(MY) Porsche 911 (993) ‘S’ coupe. In circa 2012, it is understood that an avid car collector and racer acquired the base/ standard car in Italy and to avoid having to use his other cars on track, he decided to have this car race-prepared with no expense spared. He entrusted Porsche motorsport specialists ‘Autorlando-Sport’ of Pedrengo in Italy (who have confirmed they did carry out the work and have press-release images of the car, also confirming that the base car had never previously been involved in an accident) to professionally convert it to fast-road/ track specification, in the guise of a Porsche ‘Cup’ car.
The car was enhanced and fitted out to a very high specification, including a 3. 8-litre 340bhp engine with Cup intake, full sports chassis, GEMS ECU engine management system, brake-bias system, multi-point roll-cage, Cargraphi exhaust, Sabelt Monte Carlo seats and harnesses, extractable OM steering wheel, competition dashboard (with cut-out switch and electronic instruments), access to the fuses and relays, Cup body kit, lightened doors, lightweight wheels, Plexiglass rear and side windows, ventilated and drilled Brembo disc brakes. This is a competition car and we would advise that interested parties satisfy themselves as to the exact specification.
In 2014, the car was purchased in France by a prominent Greek car collector for almost 70, 000 Euros, and in 2015 he sent it to UK specialists Paragon Porsche for a full engine rebuild (new barrels, pistons, crankshaft etc.) and for the gearbox to be upgraded to RS-spec, in total costing circa £23, 000. The car has been little used since, having had a recent inspection with a marque specialist.
A great opportunity to acquire a specialist 993 Porsche, which is also road-legal, at a very tempting guide price given the expenditure that has been endowed on it.
