There is a lot of documentation with this car - four folders of it!
Highlights:
Manufactured in September 1971, she was delivered to the first owner in October that year by Plough Motors in Stonehouse, Glocs.
In 1986, this car was first prize in the Multihull Challenge sailing race organised by Chay Blyth. The race was won by French navigator Philippe Poupon. He took the car to France, where it stayed for nearly thirty years.
In the mid-late ‘90s, at 89, 000 miles, M. Poupon had the car mechanically and bodily restored. Clearly to a very high standard as she presents remarkably well to this day. A whole series of invoices and official documents on file show the regular care and attention given to the car by both its owners in France. They also track the extremely low mileage, making me believe it is genuine and correct.
Since I bought the car in 2016 from the specialist who brought it back to the UK, I have followed the pattern of excellent, expert and no-expense-spared maintenance of the ‘E’. All invoices are on file to support this. In addition to obsessive servicing and maintenance items, she has had (approx in time order):
New coolant header tank and fan thermostat/ controller.
Front suspension rebuild, with Spax shocks.
Front brake overhaul with Brembo discs, Green Stuff pads, new calipers, servo, master cylinder, etc etc.
New clutch (new propshaft UJs too)
Rear brake pads.
New/ recon Opus ignition system & rev counter rebuild, new fuel pump, 4x carbs refreshed (runs beautifully!)
Most recently (May 2020):
2 x new door cards (originals kept with car)
Speedo rebuild & recalibrate (now rock-steady and amazingly accurate)
Starter & solenoid service.
Continued upkeep and improvement.
Please note - All work has been carried out by a known, brilliant, classic Jaguar specialist.
I have taken the car to several classic car gatherings, used it to go shopping and to get to and from work. We drove a short leg of the Round Britain Coastal Drive and have thoroughly enjoyed owning a stunning car that has been a pleasure to drive and cherish. She wants for nothing and is ready for her next owner to drive, show or just keep in the sitting room!
Being picky/ jobs for the future:
a) The tyres are good and have plenty of tread but are not ‘in period’. I would have liked to fit a set of Blockleys.
b) There is a small indentation in the stainless panel under the rear bumper - only seen from certain angles.
c) Of course, there are some age-related marks in the paintwork.
d) A very small section of the driver’s seat bolster piping is just about to wear through.
e) I had new door cards fitted but did not re-cover the caps as they seem original and in good order. Correct vinyl to match the door cards will be included.
f) There are no actual fluid leaks but some misting is evident - “They all do that, sir!"
Please call for further information. Viewing by arrangement will be in the Shepperton, Middlesex, area.
Thank you
