Here we have for sale a Series 2a crossover hard top presented in the Marine Blue colour scheme, with Limestone wheels.
Externally, there are some pleasing period features such as the Maltese grill and razor bonnet (which are fundamental features of these crossover model 2as), wing-mounted mirrors, lamp-guards, period mudflaps, rear grabhandles, original galvanised cappings, period side steps and the original aluminium pressed vintage numberplates. The rear spotlight works, which is handy for loading, towing or use in winter. This vehicle sports the smaller 600 style tyres, which give light steering and good acceleration. There is a spare mounted on the rear door.
The interior has some deluxe features which survive from the time – full door cards with arm rests and some soft-finishings to the bulkhead. A set of recent standard seats are fitted, and deluxe matting is fitted to the front footwells. The dash is, in our opinion, nicely presented. We like these 2a-style hard dash setups as they are very robust and are mainly metal, not plastic like the later Series 3. The rear is unfitted except for a load mat to the floor area – bench seats could be fitted for £295 to increase seating to seven occupants including the driver.
Out on the road, the whisper quiet petrol engine conveys this old girl along very nicely. The smaller tyres give light steering and make manoeuvring easier, whilst also giving improved acceleration. All things considered, it delivers a pleasing period driving experience.
In summary, if you are looking for a Series 2a hardtop, which benefits from MOT and Tax Exemption, then this could be for you. With the rarity of genuine crossover Series 2as, it should prove to be a strong investment for the future, whilst being cheap to run thanks to classic insurance.
