Description
This mid-range Ford Sierra GL was registered on 1st August 1986, making it one of the last few sold in the UK, according to an owners' club - so perhaps this is the newest one left - especially as only 6 remain taxed?
It's the GL model in Ocean Blue in the revised 1985 model year, so has remote mirrors, sunroof, tachometer (rev counter), deep velour seats and an improved rear parcel shelf!
History
D339 XRT was registered to Mr E Chapman on 1st August 1986, at his local dealership, LJ Gammer Ford in Stowmarket (still going strong!).
He then traded the Sierra in 2001 for a (then) new shape Mondeo Ghia. The car was hen sold to an enthusiast, who subsequently stored it for around 15 years (hence the low mileage). The car was then sold again to a classic car dealership in Oxfordshire as a p/ x, and I acquired it from the chap who bought it from the dealer (and brought it 'home' back to Norfolk/ Suffolk).
All handbooks, history, and stamped service book are present.
Condition
This car really is in good condition for a 34 year old car, it has just sailed through its last MOT, it drives 100%. It does have marks and scratches consummate with age, such as a slight fade to the front plastic 'grill' and rear O/ S panel, and some surface rust on the o/ s front quarter (pictured) but nothing significant. The arches, sunroof guttering, battery tray and bulkheads remain in original and untouched condition and make the car really stand out in its beautiful Ocean Blue coachwork. The shell is solid with no corrosion. The driver's seat has two small rips in it, so to make good, could be re-trimmed in the original Chatsworth Cloth spec.
The dashboard has the usual cracks in it, but the good news is that an immaculate, uncracked dashboard comes free with the car, ready for fitting. There is also the standard Pinto Sierra tapping noise, but I've driven it 250 miles this week, and she didn't miss a beat!
In the boot, the original spare wheel and parcelshelf remain untouched, and are as new.
This spec Sierra is now incredibly rare, but back in 1985, was the flagship (other than the RS) for the new 'It's in the Family' adverts - check out the Richard Briers advert on YouTube here:
