This is a good driver-quality E-Type 2+2, restored between 2004 and 2014. Since 2015, the car has been subject to £25, 000 of further improvements by marque specialists and has been extensively used for touring. It is a well-known E-Type Club car, having driven over 2, 000 miles on eight stages of the 2018 'Round Britain' drive raising money for Prostate Cancer.
History - The car has a well documented and colourful history. The extensive document file contains numerous invoices, photographs of previous owners and the results of research work carried out by the current owner, the DVLA and Warwickshire Country Council. The car was originally delivered in Opalescent Dark Green with a Suede Green interior to a gentleman who was a personal friend of the Queen Mother. During the early seventies, the second owner had the car repainted in Carmen Red with a Black interior, a scheme it retains today.
Engine - The original engine appears to have been overhauled in 1999, where the odometer was reset to zero. Since then it has covered 20, 633 miles. Engine performance has been recently tuned and optimised on a dyno/ rolling road by E-Type specialists. In the last five years, substantial improvements have been made. These include the overhaul of the starter motor and carburettors, new alternator, new distributor system, HT leads and battery. A new exhaust system was fitted in 2019 and the manifolds were overhauled and repainted.
Instruments - The instrumentation is generally in good order with the exception of the clock which does not work. The lights, wipers, indicators and period radio all work.
Braking system and Suspension - The front brakes have been recently replaced with a 4 pot vented disc system. The brake servo was also recently replaced. Since 2015, the steering column has been overhauled, universal joints replaced and the steering rack replaced.
Exterior - The paint work is generally in good order. There are blemishes. The O/ S door skin has bubbled near the base. There is a small area of rust on the corner on the N/ S bonnet. The paint is slightly cracked near the N/ S door. The windscreen and windows are in good order. The brightwork is also in fair to good condition.
Interior - The black leather and vinyl interior is in good order with a pleasant patina. The headlining was replaced in 2016.
Wheels - New MWS Stainless steel wheels were fitted in 2017. The rear splined hubs and wheel bearings were replaced in 2018.
Concours History - The car won its class in the Scottish Vintage Federation Concours in 2001 and was invited back to the Champion of Champions event in 2002. It competed in the regional heats of the Jaguar Trophy at Donington Park in 2016 and was invited to participate in the final at Windsor Castle. It subsequently competed in the Jaguar Trophy in 2017 and 2018 at the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court.
