We are delighted to present for sale this high-specification John Brown 4×4 unique Surf-Edition, presented in Land Rover® XS Stornoway Grey, seen on the later Defenders. This paintwork is a 5 coat job & gives the finish you see in the photos.
Externally, there are lots of desirable features – the vehicle has a new galvanised front bumper and canvas, along with rear mudflaps and grab handles. The vehicle sits on a set of BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tyres, with matching spare on the swing-away wheel carrier situated on the rear tailgate. As the name suggests, this spare can be ‘swung away’ as the photos show to allow easy access for rear loading and passengers. Wheel arch extenders complete the look, along with a set of defender-style door mounted mirrors for additional visibility when driving. The culmination of all these features creates, in our opinion, a stylish, modern interpretation of a retro-Series 3.
The interior houses a pair of deluxe high-back seats, with middle cubby box, complete with cupholders – handy for those morning coffees or trips to McDonalds®! A front deluxe carpeting set is fitted throughout, to give both better sound-proofing and a more luxurious feel. Deluxe matting is then fitted on top of this to protect it for wear or damage. The rear is fitted with twin bench seats, bringing seating to six people including the driver. The floor is reinforced with heavy-duty chequerplate to prevent damage and scratches.
Perhaps where this Series shines most is out on the road…. this vehicle not only looks superb, but it has been mechanically uprated to give a much improved performance which matches its looks – it really is one of the fastest vehicles we have ever had! Coupling the turn of speed and acceleration with the larger tyres and overdrive, gives an easier cruising experience capable of keeping with modern day traffic. The parabolic springs improve the ride over standard, and the free wheeling hubs assist the overdrive in bringing better than usual fuel economy. The look of this vehicle turns heads wherever it goes. The 200TDI engine gives far superior reliability over the standard format, and should be suited for longer journeys.
In summary, if you are looking for Series 3 soft top that stands out from the crowd, and enjoys a specification which gives a far superior driving experience to standard, then this could be for you. Not only does this vehicle look great, it has the power and performance to match and, with twice the horsepower and fuel economy over standard, is an absolute hoot to drive…. This vehicle would be ideal for weekend trips to the beach with the dogs, a camping trip to Scotland, or to take advantage of this years stay-cations which are on offer! With classic insurance and tax and MOT exemption in a few years time, it should prove to be cheap to run in the longer term, whilst being a solid investment for the future.
